The Research Centres EN&TECH and CRICT of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in the framework of the Project IMPReSA are proud to announce the international workshop Engineered Materials for Sustainable Structures (EM4SS), which provides a unique forum for researchers, companies, and practitioners to exchange ideas on the frontiers of innovative materials and structures. The six thematic sessions address different topics in the field of engineered materials, with the main goal of establishing a meaningful dialogue with the various scientific communities and the business world.

  • INNOVATIVE BUILDING MATERIALS
Materials science and technology with application in the construction field: innovative reinforcements for cementitious materials, sustainable concrete pastes, geopolymers, artificial and natural recycled aggregates. Contributions concerning innovative materials for consolidation and preservation of the architectural heritage, functionalized nano-materials and materials for additive manufacturing in construction are also welcome
  • MECHANICS OF SOLIDS AND STRUCTURES
State-of-the-art and new concepts in mechanics of solids and structures, including multiscale and asymptotic models, homogenization and instability, nonlinear elasticity, wave propagation and reflection, plasticity, fracture mechanics
  • ADVANCED COMPOSITE MATERIALS FOR STRUCTURAL PURPOSES
New frontiers in the field of composite materials with emphasis on inorganic and ceramic matrix composites for structural retrofitting and rehabilitation of civil and industrial buildings: textile reinforced mortar/fibre-reinforced cementitious mortar (TRM/FRCM), fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC), sandwich materials and structures, composite plates and shells
  • DURABILITY AND CORROSION
Investigation of new aspects in structures durability and steel corrosion in building materials, with emphasis on innovative and sustainable materials like (but not restricted to this) new and reinforced concrete, alkali-activated cement or concrete, fly ashes, slags, metakaolin, etc. This session will focus on corrosion aspects such as corrosion and passivation mechanisms, critical chloride content, long-term corrosion resistance, durability and monitoring methods
  • LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA)
Sustainability issues of construction materials: environmental impact, recycled content, legal requirements (CAM, EPD, etc.). Circular economy in the construction sector: current awareness, challenges and new perspectives on waste recycling. Environmental assessment of construction materials: LCA of products and case studies.
  • R2R – R2B ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS
Meeting desk joining scientific communities, companies, and practitioners
